This page describes the current public RockLicker site. It has no account, checkout or on-site message form. Some tools keep data in your browser; public map screens contact BLM directly when you run them.
On your device
- Field Journal: specimen details and compressed photos are stored in this browser's IndexedDB. The earlier text-only Journal used local storage and its data is retained during migration.
- Field Planner: one draft is saved in this browser's local storage when you choose Save. The Identify worksheet can carry notes to the Journal through this tab's session storage.
- ClaimCheck: intake details may pass to the research desk in session storage. Research subjects, receipt metadata and GIS results stay in the current tab unless you choose Export. Original document bytes are hashed in the browser and are not embedded in the export.
- Offline field tools: a service worker caches page files for repeat visits. It does not sync your Journal entries to an account.
JSON exports, printed pages and any screenshots are copies you control. Clear this site's browser data to remove local records on that device; exported copies must be managed separately.
When a source is contacted
Claim-location coordinates and exact-serial GIS searches are sent by your browser to BLM public GIS endpoints when you press the relevant check button. The source URL in an exported screen may contain your point or serial. Use a general research point if a locality is sensitive.
Following an external source link sends you to that site under its own data practices. Sending email from the Contact page uses your email service and the receiving mailbox.
Site delivery and changes
The public site has no RockLicker advertising or analytics script in its current source. The hosting service and your browser may process ordinary request information, such as an IP address, to deliver and protect the site; RockLicker does not specify their log retention here.
If accounts, payments, cloud sync, analytics or new third-party services are added, this page will need to be updated before those features are released. Families and teachers should review any information entered by children and avoid storing or sharing sensitive locations.
